Unstereotyped: Real Life Podcast
Unstereotyped: Real Life is a podcast dedicated to highlighting Latina women pursuing their passions and showing younger generations that they can follow their dreams despite the ongoing stereotypes of the Latino community perpetuated by legacy media.
How URL came to be
Unstereotyped: Real Life was born in the final semester of my master’s career. Originally, I wanted to write a thesis about the social media patterns of the Latino community and how it is affected by certain cultural practices. After researching how the Latino community is portrayed in the media, I realized I wanted to find a quicker solution to the oversaturation of stereotypical media we see. I wanted to create something; thus, URL was born, and now I lead a project that directly involves the Latino community. As a woman, I see how we are often last to receive a voice; that is why I decided to highlight women who are empowering their community by chasing their dreams. Through this project, I have established myself in the DFW Latino community as a multimedia journalist who strives to platform women.
